Lately I’ve been liking….

Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well on this lovely summers day…… well it’s technically summer, but you wouldn’t think it by looking out of the window right now! I want to forget about the dreary weather for a moment and think about things that I have been liking lately…..

Black Primark flip flops

I am living in my little black Primark flip flops around the house at the moment! They are so light and comfy and so wonderfully cheap! I went into our local Primark at the weekend and I couldn’t find any more flip flops! Where have they gone? Is summer officially over according to Primark? Boo!

Glow on Netflix

Trust me and watch it. You will be addicted. It’s a great girl power story and you will find yourself really rooting for the team of (some slightly odd) lady wrestlers. I have watched it all and I want more! Sob!

Waitrose Coconut Biscuits

I have just got me a new packet from Ocado. Oh yeah!

Cactus Pots

I will freely admit that I am no gardener. No plants are safe around me. Except perhaps, little cactus plants in fancy pots.

Ikea White Picture Frame

I have bought two new large white square picture frames for £10 each. Thats right, only £10! They now live above our bed with one holding a black and white image from our wedding day and the other has a black and white close up of my little boys cutesy wutesy lickle face. Beautiful!

Game of Thrones

I heart Jon Snow. Yes I do! That aside, this really is great telly and I am loving the new series. I will be so sad when it ends:(

Finishing touches for our bedroom

I bought a teeny tiny little pink tricket dish from Oliver Bonas that now takes pride of place on my bedside table. It does indeed now hold a selection of trinkets. I told my husband that I absolutely needed one!

Fruit Smoothies

Yummy yummy in my tummy:)

Pinterest

I love Pinterest and I am finding it really helpful for tips and tricks on travelling with young children. We are going on holiday abroad soon and I am so anxious! I have lots of suitcase packing list ideas and tips for how to entertain a toddler on a flight. It is so helpful!

So that’s my likes, what about yours? Have you got any recommendations? What never fails to cheer you up at the moment?

Have a lovely evening all, ta ta xxx

Morning routine of a working Mummy

I remember the weeks leading up to the end of my maternity leave and trawling through the net for advice. However would I get out of the front door in the morning? Well, you just get through it and it all fits into place. Those first few days were difficult and terribly stressful, but now it has just become the new normal. Please read on to see a breakdown of a typical morning.

5:45-6am: Wake up, wake up! The little tyke is an early riser, so unfortunately we cannot really get up before him to get things ready (if we got up any earlier I would be a zombie). My husband heads down to get the morning drinks (tea for the adults, milk for the little man) and I pick up my little boy from his room and head downstairs also.

6:00am: The little tyke sits on my knee and drinks milk from a beaker. We switch on the tv and watch Cbeebies – Show Me Show Me, Baby Jake and Number Blocks. Daddy and Mummy try to wake up whilst drinking a warm mug of tea.

6:30 – 6:40am: We go upstairs to get the little man ready. Nappy changed (he hates this), eczema cream rubbed on legs and arms, then change of clothes. We wipe his face and he takes his toothbrush downstairs with Daddy.

7:00am: I get ready upstairs. Sometimes this will involve straightening my hair because I washed it the night before and sometimes I will hop in the shower. It always depends on time. You would be best to remember it doesn’t always go to plan. Whilst I am getting ready, Daddy gives the little chap a bit of toast while he makes the sandwiches. Sometimes I will prepare them the night before, but usually we are pretty tired after dinner.

7:20am: I come downstairs whilst Daddy goes up to get dressed (men never take very long). I make sure that the little tyke has brushed teeth, brushed hair and I put on his little shoes. Then I dash about the kitchen, giving it a little wipe down and tidy.

7:40am: We put the little man in the car and make sure we have everything that we need to take for the day –

  • Coats (if it is cool or raining)
  • Toddlers backpack with spare change of clothes
  • Daddys lunchbag
  • Mummys lunchbag
  • Mummys work notebook and handbag

The little man is usually a little fussy at first and he takes his little comfort toy with him in the car. We are off.

7:45am: We drop the little chap at nursery. He is usually pretty good, unless he is tired or a little under the weather. Kiss him and cuddle him and away we go.

8:00am: Arrive at work.

Phew, makes me tired thinking about it. So what do you think? Is this a pretty typical routine or do you have any other tips that can help?

Love to hear your feedback as always, ta ta folks xxx

Parenting update….. feeling pooped

When I started blogging (properly) nearly a year ago, posts seemed to flow so well. Nowadays….. not so much. By the end of the day I feel pooped. Really pooped. My little boy is now just over two years old and he’s a bundle of energy, and I am finding it really tiring work at the moment. He jumps, he crawls, he climbs, he runs and he is a force to be reckoned with!

Lately we have been making little changes to our routines to get him ready for the next stages in development –

Potty training

I am not sure if he is quite ready yet, but I thought it might help him get used to the idea by buying a childrens book that would help explain what to do. I found a book on Amazon called Pirate Pete’s Potty by Ladybird Books and I cannot recommend it enough. You follow the story of little Pirate Pete of how he learns to use a potty and it gives the child choices to help them interact. Once each page is completed, you can encourage your child to press the ‘cheer’ button. The little tyke thinks it is great fun!

Getting rid of the bottles once and for all!

It’s a little bit embarrassing, but we have really struggled to get rid of the bottles so far. I think we have tried every flipping beaker going, to no success! It turns out that we simply had to change the routine. If we make sure that the beaker of milk is left in his bedroom before he goes up to bed, he is more likely to use it. Previously my husband had tried to bring it in whilst I read the little tyke a story, but he would only cry for it to be changed to a bottle. This little change has done the trick and all bottles are now in the bin. About time and good riddens!

Transition to the big bed

I am not really looking forward to this bit, but I cannot stick my head in the sand. I found another book on Amazon called My Big Boy Bed: A Pirate Pete book, also by Ladybird Books. It follows Pirate Pete on his exciting journey from cot to a big boy bed. Like the other book it gives the child a series of choices and you can encourage your child to press the ‘cheer’ button at the end of each page. He just loves sitting down with me to read them. I have kept both of the books on the coffee table in the lounge, to make sure he is familar with them.

At the weekend we also made the move from toddler sleeping bags to a toddler duvet and pillow set. We picked some cute transport themed bedding with cartoon cars, buses and planes. He looks so cute in his bed all snuggled up when I put him down. He doesn’t stay there for long though…. he’s a real wriggler! I am sure he will get used to it in time. By making this little change we hope it is one step closer to making him comfortable with the transition to a big boy bed.

So, thats my update for now folks. Let me know how you coped with these developments and any tips would be greatly appreciated! Did you potty train or go straight to the toilet? Is the transition to the big bed a nightmare or is it ok?

Ta ta for now my lovelies xxx

Getting ready for the party

collection

My little boy celebrated his 2nd birthday exactly one week ago and it was a pretty low key affair. This is because next week we will be hosting a joint birthday party for him and his cousin, with family members coming to our house to join the festivities. But the thing is….. I have never hosted a party before in my entire life! In fact, even as child I never had a birthday party. So saying that this is a bit of a learning curve is pretty much an understatement!

But not to worry folks, not to worry! I will do my very best to make it a super day for the two boys and all the guests of course. In my mind its all down to the planning, there’s no good achieved from just ‘winging it’. So my first step was to pick a theme and as this was a joint party, it had to be something that would suit them both. We all decided to go for Thomas the Tank Engine and ran with it. My little boy is mad for Thomas, so this was a great result.

I have created my own posters for the front door, buffet table and posters of the birthday boys to dot around the house. Really chuffed with them (pardon the pun)! I will extend my dining table and push it against the wall for my buffet table and decorate accordingly. I have managed to find loads of red, blue and Thomas party accessories through Amazon and from supermarkets –

  • Amscan Assorted Plastic Cutlery Packs in Bright Royal Blue x 2 (Amazon)
  • Carejoy Red Stripe Paper Drinking Straw Pack (Amazon)
  • Amscan Add An Age Thomas Letter Banner (Amazon)
  • Amscan Thomas Banner (Amazon)
  • Thomas & Friends Party Pack for 16 (Amazon)
  • Bello Blue Stripe Paper Drinking Straw Pack (Cannot remember where I got these!)
  • Happy Hours Red Food Tray Twin Pack (Asda)
  • Red Paper Bowls x 16 (Asda)
  • Red Paper Plates x 20 (Asda)
  • Clear Plastic Tumblers x 20 (Sainsburys)
  • Age 2 Balloons (Card Factory)
  • Thomas Balloon Bouquet (Card Factory)
  • Balloon Weight (Sainsburys)

Drinks will be served in the kitchen and will include squash, lemonade, pepsi, juices, teas and coffees. Not sure about alcohol? Should I? Should’t I? The garden will have some extra chairs for people and hopefully we will be blessed with fair weather! Oh and we have also bought some super cute Sports Day Washable Fabric Colourful Bunting from Dotcomgiftshop through Amazon. We will wrap this around the fencing that surrounds our garden.

I am getting the food sorted on the morning of the party and am keeping it fairly simple. Sausage rolls, quiche, crisps, sandwiches and the like, plus some sweety treats.

So thats how far I have got with my planning so far. What do you think? Have you got any tips or pointers?

Have a nice evening and ta ta for now xxx

Why am I so jealous?

This sounds completely and utterly ridiculous in my own head, but sounds even worse as I write it down. I am really quite jealous of anyone who is pregnant at the moment. There I said it. I don’t where it comes from, the thought of being pregnant and looking after a needy little baby as well as a toddler, frankly scares me to death. But I don’t know, my heart kind of aches for another addition to our family and a sibling to my little boy.

The other day I had a conversation with a work colleague who was telling me about how she keeps a stash of girly toys at hand for whenever her little granddaughters visit. Prams and pushchairs, dollys and handbags are a regular sight in her household when the little ones come over to play. Then she said something that triggered something inside me “Well next time it could be a little girl for you”…… of course I laughed it off and said something about liking my sleep too much. But the reality is, I would love for that to be true!

We know a couple who announced that they were pregnant a month or so ago and I am guessing that they should be going for their 20 week scan soon. I am praying that it isn’t a little girl, its terribly selfish of me. But I just know that it will bring all these feelings to the surface again and I don’t want to act on them. Not yet anyway.

I am scared about going on maternity pay. I am scared about the pain of childbirth. I am scared about how I will cope with two children on very little sleep. I am scared that I will not cope with my return to work and that I could be pushed out of my job. But I long for another child.

Mother Nature you really are a bitch.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

Another Primark Haul

primark love

I’m loving Primark at the moment!!! I have to admit that I have been caught by the bug and I quite enjoy rummaging around for some new goodies! Last weekend we had another opportunity to do a spot of child free shopping and I fancied nipping into Primark to get another pair of cosy pj’s. I got a bit carried away…… want to see? –

I saw one of my fave Mummy vloggers with a Little Mermaid set of pyjamas and I couldn’t resist hunting them down. Could I find them? Nope! The Primark nightwear department is pretty extensive so I needn’t despair. This is where I found this pretty pyjama set in pink and gold colours, which is very on trend. It’s a perfect set for the summertime in a very lightweight cotton material and is super comfy! Look at the pretty tropical flower detail on the trousers…. love them! RRP – £10.00

Boys Cuban Print Hawaiian Shirt

90p!!!!!!!! How can  I say no? They were actually a last minute purchase, spotted as I was on my way to the till. Had I had a little bit more time I would have picked up a couple of more pairs. Next time I go into Primark I am heading straight to the shoes area for a proper browse!!! RRP – £0.90p

Have any of you been into Primark lately? Have you got any good recommendations for things to look out for? I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions:)

Two year old birthday party ideas

c055cfc7e921c1649672a996ff2f7c76

As mentioned on my previous post ‘23 Month Update‘, we have started to think about our little boys 2nd birthday party. What do you do to mark such an occasion? Well to start with, we need to pick a theme……..

The Gruffalo

Pros: One of the little tykes favourite books in the whole world. Its a little bit quirky. You can tie it in with some woodland themed accessories. Kids of all ages would enjoy.

Cons: You would struggle to find a ready made Gruffalo cake. There are not as many gruffalo themed party accessories available.

Peppa Pig

Pros: Involves lots of pastel colours, but mostly pink and blue. There are tons and tons of Peppa and George merchandise available. You can easily buy a Peppa Pig birthday cake in the supermarket without having to make one yourself.

Cons: Too popular and not very original. Off putting for any older kids attending.

Thomas the Tank Engine

Pros: Thomas is probably our little mans favourite tv character. He loves trains. You can get train or Thomas themed party accessories. Blue and red is nice and bright for a party.

Cons: I am struggling to find a ready made Thomas cake. I don’t have time to make a cake and I am not very experienced when it comes to baking.

Dinosaurs

Pros: The little man just loves dinosaurs and dinosaur toys. You could do a mix of jungle and dinosaur themed accessories.

Cons: I cant really think of any, except it might be a bit old for him at the moment.

Jungle Safari

Pros: You can use lots of different animal toys and accessories. There are lots of jungle themed music that you could have in the background. Its lovely and colourful.

Pros: It might not be his favourite theme.

Final decision…… Thomas the Tank Engine

We were thinking more on the lines of the dinosaur party but as he is having a joint party we decided on something that both boys like – Thomas the Tank Engine. Its going to be good fun planning this party actually and I look forward to putting up more posts relating to this!

Have a nice evening folks, ta ta xxx
