TV Trash or Guilty Pleasure

Has anybody been following Love Island? Am I perhaps one of the lonely few who has not caught onto this latest piece of telly trash? Quite a few of the younger members in my team at work have become obsessed with this programme and I was intrigued enough to watch a bit of the first episode on catch up tv the other day. Well…… it wasn’t really my cup of tea at all. It’s kind of like a soft porn Big Brother and I find it all a bit icky. The women are all plucked and preened barbie dolls and the men are super thick muscle men. They line them all up and get them to pick contestants to partner up with. What’s to like about that? Yack.

Now I may sound like I am getting on my high horse here, but I will freely admit that I have been quite partial to a bit of tv trash in my time! My goodness, when I think back to some of the silly programmes that I have watched in the past it makes me cringe ………

Paris Hiltons My New BFF

Now this really is what you call proper TV trash! It goes against everything I stand for. It’s full of airheads with half a brain and no sense. They are all desperate to be famous and would do anything to latch onto potential bff (doorway to fame) Miss Paris Hilton. But I flipping loved it. So there:P

Ibiza Uncovered

This was actually quite controversial at the time of release. It was a little bit naughty and a little bit cheeky and very rude in places. I remember that me and my best friend were obsessed with it at the time and we were desperate to go on a girly holiday there. It didn’t happen. It makes me laugh when I look back now, because I just know I would have hated it!

Eurotrash

I remember introducing this to a Norwegian friend many, many years ago and he thought I was insane. Well, it was quite bonkers and definitely not one to watch with your parents. Oh goodness no!

Coach Trip

Oh this is just a big cuddle of comfort TV, or rather it was until they ‘got down with the kids’ on E4! I loved it for the real mix of personalities of all ages and backgrounds. Now they pick a load of ‘Take Me Out’ type contestants and take them to Marbella or Ibiza. It’s like Love Island on a bus. Boo hoo:(

Big Brother (when it was on Channel 4!)

Oh the Creme de la Creme of telly trash. I am not afraid to say that I was a very loyal follower of Big Brother until it moved to Channel 5 about six years ago. Now like Love Island. But in a house.

What’s your guilty pleasures from past and present? Don’t be afraid to spill the beans!

Ta ta and nighty night xxx

This month I have been watching…

It has been an extremely hot day in the UK today and I am feeling very lazy and very tired. So tonight’s post is a nice and easy post folks. It’s all about what I have been watching lately on the telly. So without further ado, here goes…….

The Handmaid’s Tale

I am absolutely loving this new series showing on Channel 4 on Sunday evenings. We are only on episode 3 here over in the UK and I think the first series may have already finished in the US (please don’t spoil the ending for me!). It focuses on a character called Offred, who lives in a warped version of the future where fertile women like herself, are made to serve as baby makers for powerful families. It is a horrible version of the future where women lose their place in society, and by law are not allowed to work, own property, control money, or read.

Offred has been assigned to The Commander, an important figure in this new future, and she is expected to bear him and his wife a child. She longs to be free from this new reality and to one day reunite with her daughter. I know it sounds a little bit dark, but it is so beautifully shot and Elizabeth Moss is just wonderful as the main character. I really cannot recommend this show enough.

The Keepers

I recently signed back up to Netflix because I had heard a few good recommendations for  a couple of things to watch. One of them being for this show.

The Keepers is a documentary series, which investigates the unsolved murder of nun Cathy Cesnick, a teacher at a Baltimore Catholic school. Sounds simple? Well there is so much more to the tale than meets the eye and I find it absolutely fascinating. The real story is about the cover up of sexual abuse of several students, committed by a priest at the school. A pair of ex students have made it their life mission to find answers. I think I am in the middle of episode 4 now and am totally hooked!

Wentworth Prison Series 5

I have been loyally watching this fantastic Australian women’s prison series since the very first episode. There seems to be a lot of noise and buzz about Orange is the new black, but I don’t really get it myself. This series however is much more up my street. It’s grittier and filthier and a good bit of adult viewing once the little chap has disappeared up to bed for beddy byes!

Eastenders

I havent really been following the soaps much of late, does anyone in the summer? But I have started to watch Eastenders again and particularly paid attention when they announced the introduction of a new family. It makes ludicrous watching sometimes but I love a bit of telly trash sometimes!

I have put links to all the shows in the titles, just in case you are a bit curious. What are you all hooked on lately? Have you got any good recommendations?

Have a nice evening, ta ta folks xxx

TV Shows in 2017

watching-tv

I listened to the radio earlier whilst washing some dishes and the singer Gary Barlow came on to talk about his new show on Saturday night ‘Let it Shine’. He explained to the presenter that the premise of the show is to find young singers who will make up a boyband for his new musical. I immediately rushed off to pre-record the programme, its worth a try right? It got me thinking, what else is there to look forward to on the box for 2017. I did my research and heres what I have found so far……

Emerald City (Early 2017 – 5star) – An edgy version of The Wizard of Oz with the adult Dorothy Gale being transported by a tornado from Kansas to Oz. It promises to be dark and gritty. It has had mixed reviews but I wouldn’t mind giving it a whirl.

The Walking Dead Series 7 part 2 (February – Fox) – The much anticipated return after the mid-season break. God I love Negan, what a flipping great character he is! Please don’t kill him off too soon, pretty please!

Broadchurch Series 3 (February) – David Tennant and Olivia Colman return for one final case. I loved the first series and hated the second series, not sure if I will like this.

Big Little Lies (TBA – Sky Atlantic) – Featuring Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Reese Witherspoon. I have seen the advert appear on the channel but it didn’t really give much away. Nicole, Shailene and Reese play mothers who’s lives are turned upside down by a murder. Described as a dark comedy.

Game of Thrones Season 7 (Late Summer – Sky Atlantic) – They are only doing seven episodes this time, boo! But this is because they are concentrating on set pieces that are reportedly even bigger than before. Ooooo, Winter has arrived!

The Terror (TBA – BTtv) -The series is set in 1847, when a Royal Naval expedition crew searching for the Northwest Passage is attacked by a mysterious predator that stalks the ships and their crew in a desperate game of survival. Hmmmmm…. interesting. I don’t actually have the channel that it features on but I guess it might appear on Netflix or Amazon at some point in the future.

Prime Suspect 1973 (TBC) – This is a prequel to the famous crime series that featured the wonderful Helen Mirren. Without Helen Mirren, its got a lot to do in order to impress Prime Suspect fans.

Stranger Things Series 2 (TBC – Netflix) – Oh my lord the first series was a cracker!!! I loved the theme tune, the opening credits, the characters, the storyline….. it was just so bloody fantastic and I cannot wait for the second series.

Top of the Lake Series 2 (TBC – BBC2) – Elisabeth Moss returns as Detective Robin Griffin, investigating the mystery of a body that washed up on a beach. The supporting cast includes Nicole Kidman (who starred in Campion’s 1996 adaptation of Portrait of a Lady) and Games of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie. I loved the first series and have high hopes for the returning series!

Have you heard of any other tv shows that are due to appear this year? What ones are you most excited about? I am always interested in hearing other people recommendations!

I think I might just park myself on the sofa and watch some tv now, ta ta for now my lovelies xxx
